All’s Well on the Eastern Front

March 31, 2008

I heard from Abe again today… it’s always so nice to hear his voice! He says he is incredibly busy every day. He has been put “in charge” of his office so in addition to his duties dispatching and checking in vehicles, ordering parts, etc. etc. etc. all of the responsibility has been placed on him to keep the office running smoothly. He will have to give reviews and constructive criticism to his teammates. He’s completely capable of doing the job (and doing it well!) but anyone who knows Abe knows this will be a lot of pressure. He’s always the one rooting for the underdog! Please just keep him in your prayers that he’ll be able to manage everything successfully and be able to remain focused on the tasks at hand :)

He, as always, says how much he misses all of you and how much he misses home! He appreciates all of the packages that have been sent… keep ‘em coming! You all are just such a blessing to the two of us! Thanks so much for all of your support :)

The Boys :)

March 27, 2008

SO… I have five nephews. FIVE! I love them all to pieces :)

On Easter Sunday, I had the pleasure of hanging out with two of them! Hayden and Beau are Arica and Bryan’s boys. Mmmm… I love those boys!

Beau is still a wee babe… such a sweet face! His eyes kill me.

After Hayden calmed down from the shock of seeing his mommy’s new hairdo, they snuggled up in the recliner and read a book :) So sweet!

Hayden giving Beau some love… Hayden’s face is so cute! Haha :)

Little Beau is just a cuddle bug. Here he was all snuggled up with his Nana Sandy.

Oscar the Magnificent

March 25, 2008

On Easter Sunday, I had a bit of time before I had to be at family functions, so I decided to go visit one of my oldest, dearest friends… Oscar. Oscar is my aunt- and uncle-in-laws dog. He is amazing! He is a farm dog and I love him dearly.

I think he loves me dearly as well. He makes me smile every time I come to visit. When I step out of the car he makes this weird moan/whine noise that I swear is reserved specifically for my visits. He’s just lovely! And he was sooo well behaved for me!

So, without further ado, I present to you, Oscar Smith.

He’s thinking “…really? I really can’t jump on you right now?! What?!”

Sitting pretty… er… handsome :)

Looking noble.

I love that beast.

The greatest sound…

Today, my cell phone rang and Abe was on the other end :) Hooray! It was so good to hear his voice after not hearing from him for six days. It felt like an eternity… I can’t imagine what it was like having a loved one in any war of the past. Wowzers. Not being in contact for years… I can hardly handle six days! I’m a wimp :)

Abe says it’s sandy, dusty, windy and hot. But all-in-all things have improved from when he first arrived :) He’s in his own room now, in a building! No more sleeping in a tent! He’s getting to know his area of the base and starting to do his job now, which is great. He says to tell everyone “hello” and that he loves you all and he misses home. Remember, he has a mailing address now… don’t hesitate to ask me for it :) He likes stuff like pictures, magazines, snacks, etc. If you’d like anything more specific, again feel free to ask!

So, that’s my little update! Thank you all for keeping him and his comrades in your thoughts and prayers :) I know I’m all the time saying that but it doesn’t make it any less genuine. It really means so much to me that you’re thinking about not only Abe but his entire unit and the Brigade! We all want our Hoosier guys and gals to come home safe and I think your prayers make a difference :) So thank you!

Just Because…
