Man oh man… ever since Abe and I bought our house, it has been Us versus The Yard. First, the “spiky balls” from the Sweet Gum trees surprised us, not so pleasantly, our first summer. Yeah. Like, thousands of them. And we, like, had to rake them in thousand-degree weather. Maybe it wasn’t that bad, but it seems like it was. Then, we had The Jungle. Man oh man… I feel out of control just thinking of that. That’s a struggle we’re still, well, struggling with.
Plus, half the yard is just kind of brown and when you touch it, it kind of turns to dust. Nice.
There are pluses to our yard. Though the owners before us were a little overzealous in their planting techniques (like… isn’t everyone made with a know-when-to-stop-planting-fifty-thousand-different-varieties-of-plants type of trigger?!) we are lucky to have some beautiful plants in our yard. Often catching us by surprise, since we’re accustomed to waging war with The Yard. As I was mowing The Yard today (begrudgingly, because I’ve never had to mow our yard before) I stumbled upon a few “presents” from the previous owners.
A handful of examples…

The best part about all these beautiful flowers is that we’ve not had to plant a single one
…and take note that I didn’t show the rest of the yard
