It’s a Sock!

August 28, 2008

About and hour ago, I finished knitting my first sock!

Woohoo!

It was certainly a learning experience… and looking at the sock now, I know what I need to improve upon in the future. Hopefully the second sock in the pair will be a little more… sock-like. :) I honestly don’t think it turned out too bad. I’m actually wearing it right now. And my other foot is a little naked. And jealous. :)

Anyhow, here are some photos of what looks to be a sock. I promise it truly is one!

I could clean up the toe a bit…

Decrease the cankle factor… :)

Perhaps use a lighter, sport-weight wool blend…

And possibly next time make it look a little less deformed… in general.

Though it’s not the prettiest sock ever, I’m pretty pleased to have learned how to knit one. I now know that I was kinda, sorta doing the whole cuff and ankle regions wrong, which is why they turned out so wide. I know that I need to not pull the yarn so tight when I’m weaving the toe shut. I’ve learned a lot!

I like my sock :)

Perhaps one day it’ll have a mate!

ps: The “something new” will not be posted till later next week… kinda’ had to reschedule some things. It’s nothing life-changing, just something I’ve been wanting to work on for awhile so be on the lookout later next week!

One More Week Down…

August 27, 2008

…and I’m not really sure how many to go!

But, shoot, one week down is one week down and I take what I can get these days :)

SO, we’re one more week closer to Abe coming home, whenever that may be, and that’s GREAT news! August has certainly started to fly again, with the start of classes. I’m currently taking fifteen hours… at the end of October (the 22nd to be exact) I’ll be taking eighteen hours to finish up an “incomplete” from Summer Session One. Darn flood. It’s a lot, but I KNOW I can do it! Each additional class I take is one less class I’ll have to take in the future because I’ll be DONE! Woohoo :) I’m not really sure when just yet, but it won’t be too awful much longer.

Back to the countdown – Here is this week’s snapshot:

Man oh man, it’d be amazing if he really were to come home around the 15th. We’re getting soooo very close! Even if it’s the end of November or beginning of December, that’s still so very, very, very close.

I’m getting butterflies just thinking about seeing him again!

Have a blessed rest of the week, everyone!

ps: I’ll hopefully have something “new” to share with you sometime at the end of this week, so keep an eye out… if everything pans out… Oh my goodness I’m so excited! ;)

Keepin’ Busy :)

August 24, 2008

Hello, everyone! I hope this post finds you all well :)

So. Because I have so much spare time between Work, School and Life In General – I decided I needed to take up a hobby. You’ve all read a little bit about it a few posts back…

Knitting has become my favorite way to pass the time. I love it. Like, a lot. Haha :) So much so that I have developed a little bit of a sore on the pointer finger of my left hand from working the yarn and needles. It’s kind of like a hole… a little bit. :) Moving on… even though I enjoy knitting in my spare time, that doesn’t mean I’ve gotten a lot done. I have only two “finished objects”. They’re both scarves. The first one – The World’s Heaviest, Thickest Scarf – and then the one mentioned in this post, The World’s Second-Most Heaviest, Thickest Scarf. I have a sock in progress as well :) I’ve been knitting for a month-and-a-half so I’m not sure what beginner output should be but I feel like a snail. That’s okay though, because I truly enjoy my special knitting time.

I think I’m going to do a reproduction of this picture in the winter, when the tree is naked and there’s snow on the ground. I just love it for some reason!

I’m debatin whether or not to keep this little bow on there… it’s from where I bound off. I may add more bows to the ends. That could be cute. Opinions?

The pattern is kinda’ visible in this picture. Doggone this scarf took FOREVER. Totally worth it though. I love the nubby texture of the super-thick yarn I used.

…and the “artist” (stifle your laughter, please) herself. I like to wear fall clothes at the end of summer so that I can pretend it’s not a bazillion degrees outside. Please excuse the shimmer of sweat on my forehead. Also, I realize I’m not five-years-old, I just like pigtails, okay?! :) Notice how the scarf, wrapped only once around my neck, is super-duper thick?! Yeah, I don’t think I’ll have any problems staying warm in the cooler months!

And here be the socks… er, sock. I’ve been working on it for about a week-and-a-half. Nice. Apparently smaller stitches take longer than big, chunky stitches. Who’da thunk it?! :) I was working on the sock at the same time as the scarf, though, so maybe now that I can give the sock my full attention things will move along at a quicker pace.

These will be my Sunday socks… cause they’re ‘holy’… hehehe. Get it? Oh my…

So much left to do… and I still need to learn how to turn a heel! Yikes!

Again, I hope everyone’s having a fantastic final few weeks of summer! God bless you all :)

Much love!

Oh, The Agony.

August 21, 2008

Has time seemed to come to a screeching halt to anyone else?

Yeah, I thought so :)

I mean that with a sense of humor while at the same time thinking that, just a tiny bit, it does feel that way to me. The past week or so, it seems like the days have been passing just a little slower than they were before. Abe’s homecoming seems sooo close yet so far away! The good thing is I can actually start talking about how he’ll be coming home “soon”. This year has flown by for me. I’m sure the feeling of times’ quick passage will continue with my return to school. I started back up today. Prayers please.

As Abe says, with each day that passes, he’s one day closer to coming home.

Thank the Lord for time passing relatively quickly.

Amen.

Anyhow, I know I’ve mentioned this “countdown” I have a few times, so I thought I’d post a picture of it here on the blog. I can start putting up a weekly update, if you guys want me to… Just let me know! I can put it up each Wednesday night to celebrate the middle of yet another week that’s soon to pass.

I just want to quickly mention that the return date I’ve set on the countdown is not a set date. I put the fifteenth of November in there because he’s supposed to be home sometime around then. He may not even be home till after Thanksgiving… maybe not even till just before Christmas. Even with this knowledge, I still look at this countdown nearly every day. It is my beacon of hope. A shining representation of how much of the deployment we’ve already tackled and how little we have left!

You, too, can have your very own “Donut of Misery” by clicking here and downloading the file. You’ll, obviously, have to customize it with your own info. I have to say, it’s been a great tool in keeping my spirits up during this deployment. Who knew watching the green area increase and the red area decrease would be such an exciting process? :)

ps. Sorry I stink at blogging. For real. My apologies.

A Couple of my Favorite “Things” :)

August 14, 2008

Man oh man… do I love my puppy dog. I love him, love him, love him.

I also love my little nephew Coop! He’s one of five and he’s just so doggone cute! I love me some nephews :)

I was in Heaven this weekend when Josh, Nicole and Coop came to visit because that meant I had two of my favorite things in the same place. My pup and my Coop! Plus, it was a beautiful, cool, sunny day. Can’t beat it.

Teddy was on guard duty, making sure Coop didn’t stray too far from the blanket and warding off any dangers that may have approached the wee one. Or… he just really liked the smell of Coop’s diaper because he was just going after that poor baby’s britches! It was hilarious!

Theodore took a break from his duties to ham it up for the camera :)

Coop is growing and changing every day! It’s crazy! He was practicing standing up this weekend…

He’s such a daredevil already ;)

I’m pretty sure he was eating some grass here :) Haha.

Oh so cute :)

What a great afternoon!
